Art description: A compact notebook designed for rapid transcription, the steno pad features a top-bound format suited to quick shorthand writing. It facilitated real-time capture of speech in offices, courtrooms, and classrooms, prioritizing speed and efficiency over permanence. Pages filled quickly with compressed notation, later expanded or transcribed into formal documents and correspondence. Its structure supported a specific bodily practice (hand movement, page flipping, and margin use) aligned with listening and frantic writing simultaneously. As digital recording and typing erase it, the steno pad persists as an artifact of disciplined, manual information capture.
