Art description: A formal preface to transmitted documents, the fax cover sheet provided context, routing information, and a minimal layer of protocol. Including sender, recipient, subject, and page count, it framed the following scroll’s contents while compensating for the medium’s limitations. Often featuring corporate letterhead or confidentiality notices in crude black-and-white bitmapped lines, it reinforced institutional identity within a transient transmission process. The act of sending and receiving was accompanied by mechanical sounds and printed confirmation, embedding communication within office ritual. As email replaced faxing, the cover sheet endures as a vestige of structured communication.
